Spill It! Introductions, please!
I guess you could call me a bit of a global citizen! I am of Chinese/Vietnamese descent, born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I then relocated to NY for almost 10 years, before falling in love with a tulip farmer and moving to the Netherlands for love. I now live in Haarlem, The Netherlands with my husband and our 2yr old daughter. I started my own skincare business in late 2019 and we are the first brand to harness the power of Dutch tulips!
You were living in New York but moved to the Netherlands to be with your now husband! Can you tell us how that transition was? Was this a big decision for you?
It was a huge decision! I left my career, my friends, and a culture that I was accustomed to, also a country where I spoke the language. I am not going to lie its been a tough adjustment and I think even after almost 3yrs of living here full time I am still adjusting. Covid definitely exacerbated my situation and it can be isolating having no family nearby in a country where you don't speak the language.
What made you decide that tulips would be the special ingredient to your skincare concept?
First of all they are my favorite flower and, of course, I have unlimited access through my 4th generation tulip farmer husband. The “light bulb” or rather “tulip bulb” moment for me was discovering that tulips are one of the only flowers that continue to grow after being cut. Following this, we received two government grants that allowed us to unearth the value of a tulips DNA. We found that they are 4 times richer in botanical benefits than the rose, contain various beneficial compounds for the skin, and are rich in antioxidants, organic acids, amino acids & flavonoids. We are the first to harness this regenerative power in skincare!
Your packaging is so beautiful! What was the inspiration behind the shape of your bottles and blue color?
The shape of our jars is reminiscent of the tulip bulbs we use in our complex. Our signature blue is inspired by the Delft Blue tableware the Dutch are known for
What’s your daily skincare routine like?
Being a busy business owner and working mum I try to keep it as simple as possible.
In the morning I lightly cleanse, then use our Tulip Dew Drops as my multivitamin serum. If I am having a dry/irritated day I will spot treat with our Nectar. On days when I am puffy, I will give myself a quick facial massage with our Cryo Tools. I always finish off with a SPF, tame my brows and add a pop of color to my lips & cheeks with our Tulip Tint. I am currently obsessed with the Crispa Coral shade.
In the evening I have a bit more time for self-care. I always double cleanse with our Royal Tulip Cleansing Jelly to ensure I have removed all of the days dirt, makeup, and SPF. I use our whole Black Tulip line as at 39 I need some help with youth preservation! I will top it off with the Nectar to seal in all of the actives and add a dose of moisture.
Do you have a favorite Bloomeffects product that you can’t live without?
The Royal Tulip Nectar I use it religiously day and night. It literally saved my skin from eczema flare-ups and allowed me to be cortisone free!
